Roques de Garcia & Arenas Negras

Highlights

Two walks for the price of one in Parque Nacional del Teide.

The first Roques de Garcia gives us a real flavour for the volcanic landscape as our walk takes us around the lava flows from historic eruptions of Mount Teide and the roots of older volcanoes which now stand proud against the landscape as stunning rock formations. Including the iconic thumb shaped Roque Cinchado which featured on the old 1000 peseta bank notes and the volcanic chimney known as The Cathedral which is popular with rock climbers.

We enjoy lunch at Minas of San Jose, before heading on to El Portillo and taking a slightly longer walk up onto the ridge of the Las Caņadas caldera; from here we are afforded a totally new perspective of Mount Teide and the National Park and certainly not one seen from the road. We descend back in a circular fashion down the side of Montaņa de Arenas Negras a classic cinder-cone volcano.

These walks are conducted at a leisurely pace and are excellent environment days where the emphasis is on learning more about the National Park than covering huge distances, however, you can still expect to feel pleasantly tired at the end of the day.
